Includes NotesNotes for Israel Day Prime:
The following information is compliments of John Andrew Prime: He pretended to be Irish & changed his name to James Francis after moving to NYC after the Civil War because people thought he was Jewish. John saw this Mary Furniss (Israel's Wife) Prime's own words when she applied for his widow's pension and had to explain why he was known to the War Department as Israel Day Prime but was married to her as James Francis. She said she didn't know his real name until the week after their wedding when he took her to the family in Ellicottville, NY, to meet the folks.
