 Includes NotesNotes for John Lakatosh:
John was born in Middletown, PA where he lived for 15 years. Then his family moved to either Tower City or Macanoi City, PA where he lived and worked in the coal mines for 3 years.

John worked as a needle straightener in a knitting mill in Reading. Viriginia remembers taking a walk with her mom to where her dad worked and they could stand outside of the windows where he had his desk and chat when he was on a break. John also worked at a dye factory and was eventually laid off from that job. He was a night watchman at Luden's Cough Drop factory. When he was not working, he spent time at the South End Club playing cards and having a drink with the guys.

He and Helen sold their 9th Street house and moved in with son, Jesse and wife Dolly where they lived on the third floor and were available to watch grandsons, David and Jeffery. Later, they moved to a second floor apartment on Wunder Street and their last home was in a N. 10th Street apartment building for the elderly. There, they had good years, good friends of their ages, and plenty of activities. The main street of Reading was just a short walk. Transportation was provided if residents needed to get to the grocery store.

"Dad-do" was the name that his grandchildren affectionally called him. He liked to watch TV, especially baseball games, loved to read the newspaper everyday, liked to swim, and loved to walk and drive his car. He would "play the numbers". He like to take "Sunday drives" in the car. Grandchildren always enjoyed a car trip to Hershey, PA where there were amusments and picnic grounds and shows.

He and Nanny would frequently stay weekends with daugher Virginia, Donald, Mary Ann, and Patty. I, Patty, would like to take walks with him, especially if he was going to the Sunset Pharmacy because he would buy me candy or an orange sherbet ice cream cone. One time Dad-do had to walk with me to return a cat - (which I picked and wanted to keep by claiming it was lost and that I should keep it.) Hewas very patient with me as I pretended to forget which street I had actually "rescued" the cat. I purposely taken us an around-about way since I did not want to return the cat to it's neighborhood. Dad-do eventually became quite stern in his voice so I figured I'd ought to give up "my" cat to it's rightful owner. I was very sad to let the cat go, but Dad-do took me for a treat at Sunset to soothe my heart.

When he visited with our family, he would always write a note on my chalk board which he hoped I would answer. He liked to ask, "What's new?" and I had to have an answer besides saying "Nothing." When he'd read his newspaper, Mary Ann and I would sneak around his chair and tie his shoe laces together. He knew what we were doing, but would always pretend that he was surprised when he stood up and could not walk. We liked that he just played along with us.

He saw and helf his fourth Grandchild, Susanne Boisvert. His next grandchild, Anne Marie Boisvert was born in March 1987, but he had not seen her before his death in October 1987. He lived to be 89 years.

He required a heart pace maker which was implanted under the skin on his chest. This added years to his life. He became hard of hearing, but was well informed by reading the newspapers. His was thin, a bit bow legged and would wobble when he walked in his later years. He smoked cigars for many years, then gave up the habit.

He was a jolly fellow.

He is entombed at Gethsemane Chapel Mausoleum, Laureldale, PA 19605.
