Peter and Ida Downey were black Canadians with roots stemming from Virginia United States.
Their families were the Downey and Beals families of North Preston, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Peter and Ida had 19 children who now reside in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and the greater Toronto, Ontario area. These siblings have a large amount of children and extended generations.
Each year the family holds a picnic in the Toronto area. Family and friends from across Canada and the United States attend.
