Our ancestors have been traced to Germany on our father's side.
My mother's roots go to Sweden through her father and to England through her mother.
In Sweden, we have been able only to go to 1830.
To England, we have traced to 1790.
Tracing ancestors in Germany, has become a challenge. My paternal grandmother has roots to Hessen Castle from before the German Confederation ca. 1830. My father's roots may go to the 15th century. That lineage is being actively traced both in our country and relatives in Mannheim.
In the Charles Proffen, Sr. family, there are two living children. The youngest, Ruth Storhaug, lives in an area near Berkely Springs, W.VA. No children.
Charles, Jr. has been married for over 53 years and boasts five grown children, sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Our family research is being actively pursued by Charles, Jr. - son Charles Keith and his wife Deleah and daughter Elizabeth - and the Wolfgang Proffen family in Mannheim, Germany.
Semi-annually, Ruth Storhaug and husband Georg' host a reunion in Great Cacapon, W. Va.
