Proudler Family Tree

Updated April 25, 2003

About Our Family Research

The Proudler Family Tree dates back to early 1600s in Shropshire. Everyone with the name is related and almost all have been accounted for.

The tree, prior to mid-1700s, has had to be re-written as new evidence emerged in 2002 that we all descend from a Peter Proudler (1720-1785) - who was christened/married Proudley. As he moved away from High Ercall where his family had been since at least the early 1600s, the name evolved to become Proudler.
A couple of Proudlers still reside in Shropshire today, but most migrated away; first to the West Midlands (1830s), then to Yorks/Middlesbrough (1880s) and, finally, to Derbyshire (1890). Today, though still very few in number, they & their descendants are predominantly in England, but also USA, Canada, NZ & Australia.

Research for the period prior to 1600 is ongoing. Mary C Hill-in her book 'The Demesne & the Waste - a study of medieval inclosure on the manor of High Ercall, 1086-1399', lists individuals/tenants in the Walton Township of High Ercall 1399, and shows no Proudleys (nor variants) present. It is presumed therefore that they arrived in this area between 1400-1600, possibly from Europe. (This area of Shropshire was a magnet for many protestant families persecuted & forced out of catholic countries in Europe, specifically the Flanders area.)
