Tom Pronovost I have a brochure completed in 1954 by my great aunt Clara Pronovost. It has her immediate family and her father (George)born in Batiscan C. He was a wanderer. From St Prosper, to farming to maple sugaring to gold seeking in California. It describes their travels and wanderings through the 1800's. It misses a couple of generations and then goes back to Mathieu Rouillard dit ST CYR arriveing at Lorette PQ. born (1640)in France. He had 2 sons that took the surname Rouillard dit Prenouveau taken in 1714. Son Ignace changed it to Pronovost in 1735. My further info goes back to Jean Rouillard B 1587 in La Rochelle France I am presently looking for the missing generations. I have also compiled info on most of Clara's siblings including her brother, my grandfather Pierre and most members to the present. There are a lot of Pronovost's plus derivatives in North America that leads one to believe the Prenouveau name was taken by many un related French Canadians. The actual source of the name may lead to a reason. I am still looking for the source. At first I thought it was a made up name and we were all related but that isn't possible. There are too many of us. I also have a paper that might explain all the variations of the name and spellings.
