My Great Grandparents were Joseph and Carolina (Benckner) Steltenpohl. They came from in Oldenburg, Germany. Joseph was born in 1838 in Oldenbury, Germany and died in 1899 and Carolina was Born in Hanover, Germany and died in 1928. My grandfather, Henry, was one of nine children. Henry Steltenpohl married Gertrude (Klene Fortmen) in Germany. Henry and Gertrude moved to Ferdinand, Indiana in May of 1869. Henry had several brothers and sisters and they are all born and raised in Dubois County in Indiana. Henry (my grandfather) married Catherine Niehaus in Ferdinand, Indiana and died there. Henry and Catherine (Niehaus) had 10 children, Hilda, Anna Mae, Mary Etta, Herman, Hubert, Mildred, Bernard, Ralph, Roman, and Theresa. Most of my relation has passed away, but I am the Daughter of Bernard. I have 2 brothers and 1 sister: also living in Dubois County. I have been able to trace back some of the Niehaus family, but not the Steltenpohl's. We have had several reunions and just had one this past October with the remaining relation of cousins and cousins kids and 6 of the aunts and uncles that remain. If you have any information about my family of Joseph Steltenpohl dating back to Oldenbury, Germany, we (my family and I) would love to get this information. We are a close relation and get together as much as possible. We have always had many family gatherings while our grandparents were still living, and even now, try to make it to the remaining relation at Christmas time. This is hard considering we travel all the way from TX.
