Research to date has basically come from family members and records they kept. My Father, James Rainey, came to Canada in 1911 and awaited his Mother, two sisters (Margaret & Mary) and two brothers (George and Sam) to follow in 1912. His Father, Samuel, was already in the Americas (San Francisco). Passage was booked on the Titanic, however, a younger brother, George came down with measles and their passage was cancelled. A sign with the words "Titanic" can be found at the family home on Ballymore Rd, Tandragee, County Armagh, No. Ireland (about 30 miles south of Belfast). Working his way across Canada as a Fireman, ranch hand, he found the winters too severe and settled in Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island, and became a sheep farmer the rest of his life. Married Violet Rhode in 1928, celebrating 50 years of marriage in 1978, the year he died. Violet passed away in 2006, a few days short of her 97th birthday.
