About Our Family Research

I am working on George Rains family of Rains from Caroline Co,VA. The earliest records we have are for George, b. ca. 1750 m. Rosannah Graham really comes from the will of Rosannah's father which names all the children which we new to siblings of my Joab. My line come from their first born Joab. The family went from VA, to N.C., and to TN, from where my line went to IN, and others to AL, LA, TX, and other states. I, aslo, includes searches and data on others line of our family to include, Sowders, Goodnights, Skinners, Alley, Moore, Bracken, Tichenor,Bryan, Aldred, Wright, Hammer and many others. We are following the lines of Robert, Ishmael, Laurence (Lawrence), which we now, according to DNA testing know are not a part of are family. George and Anthony out of N.C. believing them to be brothers, and is verified through DNA testing. DNA testing is providing new and interesting paths. We know believe that George and Anthony had brothers of John, Willian, and Henry partly based on new Revolutionary War information. If your Rains connects through Randolph Co., NC or Warren Co., TN let me here for you. I have a total of 10,000 plus names currently in my off line tree and willing to work with any and all to achieve more data on the history of our families. I know I have lots of cousins out there in these great United States of American Under God!, for which I am thankful and glad to meet and work with as many as possible for common results. I do not believe you should have to pay to share with each other. Feel free to contact me at any time by email, mail, or phone.

Family Photos
  • George Washington Rains (251 KB)
This is my 3rd Great Grandfater, I belive to be the oldest photo I have, while I am still searching boxes of family photos.
  • Henry Clay Rains (354 KB)
This is my 2nd Great Grandfather. I do have several more pictures of him to work with, but this is a age 18 as he joined the Union Army in IN, during the Civil War. It was a terrible war, of family members against family members, documented in our own family.
  • Charles Henry Rains (104 KB)
My Great Grandfather whom I knew and visted and had great stores. Oh how I wish I had the question I have now, when he was still there to ask.
  • Floyd Millarad Rains (80 KB)
My Grandfather, wish we had more time together, he died much too young.
  • Robert Gene Raines (126 KB)
My Father, the one who started our research and has worked with many of you I am sure. He continues yet today to find more data and search for the father of our Grandfather George back in VA. Dad got me started in this, for which I am thankful, as I do love the history of the family and our country. Dad and his brother had an "e" on their birth certificate in error that was not corrected, so our name became Raines at this point. My grandfather often used the spelling to match his sons, but his legal name was Rains, his first marriage was Rains, I do believe his second marrige and his burial used the name Raines.
  • David Earl Raines (93 KB)
Me - I was born in Elwood, IN but lived and raised till age 14 in Tipton, IN where the Fairview Cemetery is full of my family tree. I have one brother James Paul Raines, b. Feb 1948 who has two grown daughters, no sons, no grandchildren at this point. I have 4 Daughters, and one son, and 3 grandchildren by my second daughter with the last name Allen, and two grandaughters by the name Raines with my son.
  • David Earl Raines, Jr. (22 KB)
The Last Stop. David is the only boy left in our line that can produce a male heir. He has two wonderful and beuatiful daughters, Jen'na and Katlyn. Katlyn was born July 24, 2002 on Grandpa David's 56th birthday. Can we go one more son?
