I have only just scratched the surface of my quest to trace my ancestory, and therefore I have houndreds of more intense hours of searching.

The Rankin name appears to be born in Scotland, and whose clan lost their rights and merged with the McLean of Duart clan. We were known as gutsy fighters, and visions from some scenes of 'Brave Heart' make me ponder and think "I wonder if any of the Rankin's were up there with William Wallace?" Perhaps that explains where my somewhat placid but gutsy qualities come from.

My coal-mining grand father, David Goodwin Rankin (married to Ethel Margaret Jackson) was born in Kilsyth (nr Glasgow) Scotland in 6 Sept. 1898. His father,James Rankin, born 1880 was also a miner, so us Rankins were (and still are today) not scared to get our hands dirty!
