Jon's family are mainly from East Lothian and Midlothian (paternal) and Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire (maternal). Amongst the surnames mentioned are: Redpath, Scott, Forbes, Muir, Manderson, Anderson, Wilson, Drysdale (Scotland) and Gerring, Goddard, Hobbs, Hawkins (England).
His ancestors were mostly farm workers, with the majority of the men being farm servants, or ploughmen.
Irene's family are from Yorkshire (paternal) and Sussex (maternal). The principal surnames are: Whiteoak, McCready, McCarthy, Metcalfe, Greenwood, Duckworth, Green, Barrett (Yorkshire) and Budgen, Trussler, Dapp, Wilson (Sussex).
Many of my Yorkshire ancestors were in the weaving trades: handloom weavers, and later machine weavers and wool sorters. The Sussex family were mainly farmers, pork butchers and carpenters.

My paternal ancestors came mainly from Yorkshire, and maternal ancestors from Sussex, in the south of England.
