The Powell's of Pentrych

Updated November 18, 2000

About Our Family Research

The Powell family have resided in the village of Pentyrch near Cardiff in South Wales since 1792 when the earliest record was Thomas Powell. Almost all the males since that date have either been named Thomas, John or David. It was interesting to discover illness that linked both surviving members of the Powell clan with those of their ancestors. Also interesting was the description of jobs that the Powell men had at the time eg John Powell born in 1796 gave his occupation as a Baller on his sons birth certificate in 1838. I later discovered that a baller was connected to the Iron Furnaces which were prominent in this area during that time.
