I have been researching my family for around 4 years on and off more off than on though, I have many copies of Birth Marriage and death certificates *(not extracts though) I have also researched 22 name variats to date, and continuing with more I believe that there is up to 33 name variations for the McMichan families. I have always been told that we originated from Ireland and that the McMichan family had a Catholic Church named after them in Dublin which is called the Michan Church. I have confirmed that the church still exists today.
My ancenstors originally came from Ireland but moved to Scotland eary 1800's from what I have seen so far. I have only just found my 6th generation grandmother after searching for over 18months for her. Everywhere I looked nothing. I was beginning to wonder if they had secretly married as a lot of them did back then. Most of my recent ancestors lived in the Roxburghshire and Dumfries area's however as I work further back I see that they lived in Troqueer, Kirkcudbright, and some were born in Urr, Kirkcudbright, however I have confirmed with the 1841 census that my 6th generation grandmother came from Ireland according to the records to date, they were having large families back then between 7 and 9 children, I have my 5th generation grandfather and his spouse with all their children and future generations as well. I have records on 22 other spellings as well, deaths, marriages and births, census records, and I am now compiling them on Excel with all the name variants so far. Hmmm an interesting task, which I thoroughly enjoy in my spare time, If you have any information you would like to give or receive don't hesistate to email me at buz007@optusnet.com.au
