Orra Rew and his family have lived in Iowa City since 1961. He and his ancestors before him have lived various places in Iowa since shortly after his great grandparents, Sylvester and Elizabeth Rew were able to slip out of the tight grasp of the early Mormons in Salt Lake City, sometime in the early 1870's, after traveling west with Brigham Young, helping with the early church, and then at some point becoming disillusioned with it. Some of the family members settled in other areas of the midwest.
I have some information that indicates Sylvester came from Dunkirk, New York and that his father's name was Hanan Rew.
His wife's name was Elizabeth Sylvester and she apparently lived nearby in Warren Co. Pennsylvania. Her father's name was Edwin Sylvester.
Their son, Osmer Maroni was my great grandfather. His son Claude was the father of my Dad Orra, whom I mentioned at the outset of this dialog.
