About Our Family Research

John Alvis Amonett and Elmira Octivia "Tivie" Irwin were married December 27, 1894, in Tennessee. John was the second of nine children born to Willis Amonett and Hannah Elizabeth Jackson; Elmira was the sixth of eleven children born to John Hardin Irwin and Martelia West. John became a school teacher and a farmer, while "Tivie" was always a homemaker. They and their first three children born at the time moved from Tennessee to Texas in 1901 to the Bibb Community in Comanche County. The subsequent seven children were born in Comanche County.

The numerous grandchildren continue to celebrate their heritage at a family reunion each year at various locations in Texas - Petersburg, Lubbock, Quitaque.
