My name is Carole Beth Rhodes and I reside in Nashville, Tennessee. I started researching my Rhodes Family about twenty years ago. Without the help of the computer as we have today, the going was slow. Now that we have the computer and all its resources, a whole new world is opening up. I have found we are descendants of Zachariah Rhodes and Joanne Arnold. My family moved from Rhode Island to New York to West Virginia to Ohio.
My father married a gal that was borned in Ohio, but the majority of her family was from Tennessee. That is how my father and mother ended up in Lawrence County, Tennessee. My father passed away in 1986. Up to that time, we had made a yearly trip to Ohio to see relatives. Now it is just my mother and me. When my Aunt Carrie was alive, we would have a reunion or a get-together every time we were in Ohio. After she passed away, we kind of drifted away from getting together. About six or seven years ago, my cousin Marsha and I decided that just would not do. We called several of our aunts, uncles and cousins, and they were like us. They missed those times together. Our branch of the family is Lewis Rhodes and his descendants. The last couple of years, a few of Grandpa Lewis' aunts and uncles' family has been at our reunion, and we have enjoyed meeting them so much. Our next reunion is on September 16, 2001. We so enjoy the reunions, and this year we should have a new little cousin. I cannot wait to meet her/him.
As I said, my research has taken me around the world it seems. I have traced it to England/Wales, then France, and then to Germany. Then, after that, possibly on to several other countries. I have been amused to find several grandparents that I have read about in history. Charlemagne, Alfred the Great, and Lady Godiva to name just a few. Amazing! I cannot wait to find more and more relatives. Speaking of people other than my grandparents such as cousins, in my researching, I have found that President Bush's 11th great-grandparents were Zachariah and Joanne Arnold Rhodes. I could not believe this when I saw it on the screen. It just goes to show, you never know what you might find once you start looking.
Looking at my family tree, if you find anything that should be corrected or you have something to add, please let me know. I would appreciate any help in my journey throught my family history.
