Ryland Randolph's House at Turkey Island, 1760's

Updated December 31, 2011

About Our Family Research

I have prepared a graduate level paper for an Art History class concerning Ryland Randolph's house ( known as the "Bird Cage") at Turkey Island. The paper synthesizes relevant historical documents, architectural history and recent archeological findings.

I also discovered a useful connection between John Banister of Battersea Plantation and Ryland. They were born the same year, were cousins, went to law school in London at the same time and both built Palladian houses which were among the first in Virginia.

I would be glad to email this paper to anyone interested.
