The Ribbans Family Name
My site at www.ribbans.com contains what I know of the origin of the name - the work was largely collected by a Charles Ribbons of Stevenage Herts who spent his life researching the family and passed some information, before he died, to my Father .
The strongest evidence is supported by the existence, in East Central Suffolk, of a moderately wealthy yeoman family named Revans. They held lands granted by them under the Charter of Reformation (Henry Vlll), evidently seized monastery lands. This property passed through six generations until 1675 when it was appropriated by the Crown under the Act of Sequestration governing the possessions of a felo-de-se (a suicide - that act being then against the law). All properties are in this case forfeit to the Crown, and were granted to the estate of the Duke of Suffolk.
