I have traced my family in Canada, England, Wales and Scotland.
My great grandfather Samuel Redpath was from Cornhill, Northumberland, England and emigrated to Canada in 1860 and settled in the Peterborough, Ontario area. He married Jane Isbister from the Orkney Islands north of Scotland and had a large family.
His father was James Redpath and his mother was Elizabeth Swan of the Berwick-upon-Tweed area of Northumberland.
Samuel's name was recorded as Ridpath in the 1861 census for Ontario and he had a large family including the folowing Sons: James William (my grandfather), Gordon, Bruce (NHL hockey player), John Isbister (founder of Ridpath's Fine Furniture store in Toronto in 1907), Samuel and others. Some moved to the U.S. and one founded the Ridpath Hotel in Spokane Washington.
My mother, Alice was born as Alice Innes in Swansea, Wales of a Scottish father, Charles Innes and an English mother - Maude Potter of Birmingham. Alice emigrated to Canada with her mother in 1908 and married my father James, Clayton Ridpath (son of James William) in 1928. I am Clayton and Alice's sixth son of six and have two daughters and seven grandchildren.
I am desiring to make links to any Ridpath in the U.S. especially any descendants of John Clark Ridpath, the historian of DePaw University.
