About Our Family Research

Finding the history of our family has been a four year search. I feel like Ihave traveled throughout the British Isles, Scotland in particular.
The search started in Barrhead, Scotland August 28,1888. The year my grandfather, William Kirkwood Docherty was born to James and Jane (Berrie) Docherty. He had eight sisters (at least that is all we could find). His sisters were; Margaret Herdman Docherty who married Matthew McQueen; Jeannie Docherty (no info);Ann Boyle Docherty who married Thomas Murray; Catherine Docherty who married James Conway; Mary Berry Docherty who married Thomas Patton; Jane Francis Docherty who married Thomas Flemming; Isabella (Bella)Docherty who married Lawrence Love and is known to have moved to Canada; and Elizabeth Berry Docherty who died at birth.
Finding the preceeding generations have proven to be the most difficult. We know that William's father James was the decendent of James and Ann (Boyle) Docherty (circa 1855). The elder James was born in Old Kilpatrick, Scotland and lived his adult life in Abbey, Paisley, Scotland.
His father was also James who married Catherine Hughes (circa 1828). These records have been authenticated by Scotland Registry of births, marriages and deaths.
