I have been researching my family history since the age of 12. I am now researching my husband's family as well.

- Walter Washburn (1790-1865) (30 KB)
Walter, the "Salty Dog" as I like to call him, fathered a total of 14 children with his two wives (who were sisters-in-law).
- Stephen Christian Schilling (1821-1906) (4 KB)
One of my stalwart German ancestors. He settled with his wife Lisbeth in Keokuk County, Iowa.
- The Schilling Girls, circa 1915 (my guess) (22 KB)
These six lovely young ladies were all granddaughters of Stephen Christian Schilling and his wife Lisbeth Bornmüller.
- Rosa (Coverdale) McKellar (1868-1957) (3 KB)
The statuesque Rosa (short for Rosina) was, I suspect, long-suffering as well as long-lived.
- John D. McKellar (1855-1932) (4 KB)
Easily one of the most intriguing of my recent ancestors: it remains to be discovered both why John D.'s father was cut off from the family, and why John D. himself committed suicide at the age of 77.
- Emil Schmidt (1860-1936) (2 KB)
Jolly-looking Emil was a German immigrant who became reasonably successful in America as the manager of a lumber and hardware store.
- Frank Joseph Meyerle (1876-1949) (1 KB)
My great-grandfather, a Nebraska farmer.
- Herbert and Luella (Schilling) McKellar (3 KB)
My McKellar great-grandparents, Herbert and Luella, lived in Chicago, where he was a schoolteacher.
- Joseph Nelson Washburn (1835-1910) (537 KB)
One of The Salty Dog's sons, Joseph became a farmer in Keokuk County, Iowa.
