Thomas Riggs (son of John Riggs and Marie Blake Hopgood) was born Abt. 1632 in England, and died February 26, 1721/22 in Gloucester, Essex Co., Mass.. He married (1) Mary Millet on June 07, 1658 in Glouchester, Essex Co., Mass. He married (2) Elizabeth Freeze on October 30, 1695 in Glouchester, Essex Co., Mass.

OCCU PLAC Town Clerk 51 years, Repre in General Court First appeared in this country as a grantee of land around 1658 at Goose Cove. In 1661, he bought houses and lands of Matthew Coe and Thomas and John Wakley, also situated near Goose Cove. He is said to have been educated in England for the profession of scrivener, and his ability in that line made him a welcome acquisition to the community. Per Mormon Family History, this line goes back to Thomas Riggs b. 1525, Southampton, England which makes him a relative of Edward of Roxbury.
