There were four children born to their marriage. As his ancestors before him, William Porter Rinehart was a farmer. Cherokee County is said to have some of the richest soil in Alabama. The couty is located in the Northeastern part of the state. The land consists of high peaks and valleys. It is interesting to notethe county is located in what used to be the Cherokee Strip. It is conceivable that both William Porter and his father Thomas W Rinehart had to deal with the Indians along the strip to survive and farm their land.
