Notes for William Porter Rinehart: Monahans, Ward County, Texas - birthplace or not?? what I was told but not so sure...
_____________________________________________________________________________________________ notes from William Porter Rinehart (Earl Rinehart's son), Bill's nephew:
Bill and Ruth Rinehart went to the Valley (South Texas) to help his Uncle James Nealy Rinehart farm down there. Prior to that he had been a streetcar conductor in Waxahachie. James Nealy Rinehart was somewhat of a pioneer of fruit raising down there.
(comparing Bill to his father Ocie}
"But, yes grandpa (OCIE C. b 1873) was a stern man. He enjoyed a joke as well as anyone but when it came time to work, you'd better be ready. He did command respect.......... ..........They both had that presence about them that just commanded and demanded respect. You knew exactly where you stood with them. When i was about 5 or 6 Uncle Bill and Aunt Ruth were up from the valley and I told uncle Bill I didn't like being named Porter because I had some friends tease me about it. When he got through lecturing me about the name William Porter Rinehart I never again said anythign about that name. When he was through he wanted me to take him to the boys and he would explain to them what he explained to me. I remember thining when it was over that he was the wisest man I had ever met. Of course there were no doubt in my mind he was rich, because he put me in his car and took me to town and bought me an ice cream cone." _____________________________________________________________________________________________
