Born in Surry County and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Yadkin Co at age 35, March 17 1862. Reported present in June, 1862. Deserted on August 18, 1862. Returned to duty on Jan 31 1863. Hospitalized at Richmond, Virginia, March 9 1863 with variola (note: i believe this is smallpox?). Died in hospital at Palmyra, virginia march 16, 1863, of "pneumonia." [Reportedly enlisted as a substitute for Private John C. Bryan of this company; however, Bryan was not discharged.]
