Includes NotesNotes for Samuel Tilden Scott:

in a 1985 visit with grandaughter Willie Smith Rosser, Sammi and Margie, Sam's daughters, tell that Sam Scott ran away from home at age 13 (1897. He shipped cattle from Wyoming to South America, traveling south in a banana boat. Ended up in the Breckinridge, San Antonio area.

family member's perception of Samuel T. Scott:

daughter Sammi Nell Copenhaver Norris - "(He was) a quiet, hardworking family man." She goes on to say "he did not
love his daddy. He did not like the way his daddy treated his mother. He beat her and the children."

grandaughter Willie Beatrice Smith Rosser --- she remembers him as "strong and tall (6'4" or so) - a HARD worker, who was devoted to his family. Soft spoken and didn't talk much. The cancer that took him down was mean. He had surgery, and was unable to work, couldn't stop worrying about the bills."

His battle with cancer was not stopped by the surgery. His condition continued to deteriorate, and he felt he was an extreme monetary burden to the family. On January 31, 1944, age 60, he put himself out of his misery, guilt and pain with a self inflicted gun shot.

_______________________________________________________________________________

1930 Hidalgo County, Texas Census

Samuel Scott age 45, and his wife of 18 years Willie A, 36 had children Mary A 16, Leone E. 15, Eunnice 13, Margie 10, Sammi 8, Bruce W. 5, Zane G. 4, and Rita 2, living at home with them. His occupation was listed as farmer, and he rented this farm. He was not a veteran. Interesting to note... While Willie does indeed state that her parents were from Mississippi and Alabama, which would go along with current records, Sam Scott states his father is from Missouri and his mother from Nebraska. John D. Scott, who we assume is his father is documented from OHIO. Did Sam Scott lie about his parentage or is John D. Scott not his father??
