Harris Smith (b. 1791, d. 1863)

Harris Smith (son of George Lumpkin Smith and Elizabeth Harris)⁷⁹¹ was born 1791 in Buckingham Co, Va⁷⁹¹, and died 1863⁷⁹¹. He married Nancy Strather Flood on November 27, 1812 in Wilson County, Tennessee.

Harris Smith came to Wilson Co., Tennessee with his parents, George Lumpkin and Elizabeth Smi th in the early part of the century. About this Thomas Flood and family (wife's name was Str ather) also came from Buckingham Co., VA and their daughter, Nancy Strather was married to Ha rris Smith, my grandfather, after they came to Wilson Co., Tennessee, while they were both yo ung. The father of each of these was a wealthy farmer. Harris Smith (my grandfather) wa s a soldier in the war of 1812. - Nancy Lee's letter, 25 Aug 1934 - (page 103).

Now Harris Smith was born 1791, Nancy Flood was born 1796. Don't know date of their marriage . He lived to be about 72 years of age. Don't know cause of his death but remember hearin g it said that he had a very bad stomach always and didn't drink water for years but would co me to the house from the field and drink a cup of cold coffee. She (Nancy Flood) lived to b e about 80 years. She had a stroke of apoplexy and didn't walk for several years. Happene d right soon after grandfather's death. Don't know dates of George Lumpkin and Elizabeth Smi th. - Nancy Lee's letter, 15 September 1934 - (page 104).
