Notes for James Mcilwain: I did find this information that might help with the McIlwain (mcilwain) searching: This is from The Coweta Courier (a pub of the Coweta Co. (GA) Genealogical Society) and is referring to Nancy McIlwain Storey: "Her father was James, and although the name may have been pronounced McIlwain, there were 7 different spellings of this name in his estate settlement, none of which were McIlwain. These were MucLewayne, McClewayne, McClewween, Murclewayne, etc..."
I have that his estate was probated on August 22, 1808. Date of death being 05/25/1807. I have a copy of the papers on the way to me. I understand his wife was either Jean or Jane and that they had a daughter named Jane and a son named James as well as Nancy (Agnes). They are buried at the Fairforest Presbyterian Cemetery in Spartanburg.
