I have been researching my Jesse RIPPY roots since May of 1975. Jesse Eldridge RIPPY b. 13 Feb 1927 Simpson Co, KY m. 18 Feb 1946 at the Franklin Simpson Co KY Courthouse Miss Bertha Irene "Cricket" ROALIN. Of this union 4 children were born: Janie RIPPY, Eddie Dean RIPPY, Patricia Ann RIPPY and Jesse RIPPY, Jr.
Now the 4 of them were born in Simpson Co, Franklin KY and therefore we called them Clodhoppers and of course Mom and me were born in Macon Co, TN and Trousdale Co, TN (PARH) and so they called us Ridgerunners! What a fun place to grow up, going back and forth across the KY-TN line to visit Mom's ROALINS and Daddy's RIPPYS! I always call those Tennessee hills "my beloved hills" and when visiting tell friends that I am going back to the place of my birth!
So far as I have found out to date this is how it started: Matthew Jesse RIPPEY came from Dublin Ireland in the 1700s. He seems to have been born around 1735 and he married Nancy Ann HOLIDAY around 1759 and they built a plantation house by the Haw River, in Orange Co, NC where they resided until his death in 1817/1818. I don't know much about her. Matthew's will is posted on the internet and he seems to have had these children:
