About Our Family Research
The Cawthorne family traced to Richard Cawthorne of Darfield Parish, Yorkshire, England, intially moved to Virginia through one of his grandsons, Richard III, in 1670. All the family having been members of the Merchant Taylor Company, a respected merchant organization in London, they had been large landholders. Richard III had three sons in America who fought in the American Revolutionary War on the side of the rebel colonists.
