My name is Angela(Tomlin)Ritter I married Michael Ritter. I grew up in Fayetteville, WV.My husband grew up in Lookout,WV. We live on my familys farm now at Beckwith, WV(3 miles outside of Fayetteville). I got interested in my family history when I was trying to figure out which Native American tribe my ancestors were from, and no one in my family really knew for sure. So I figured I would try to find out myself, but it is harder than I realized it would be. Especially since I know little to nothing on Native Americans. I have always been told that my greatgrandmother(on my mothers side)was Iroquois, but when I started searching for her past I ran into some problems. First of all my grandfather was only 2 when she died and 3 when his father died, so I had little info to go on, and second I found out that Iroquois is a non-native term. There are 6 Indian nations that combine to make the Iroquois Confederacy, and they are: Senecas, Mohawks, Oneidas, Cayugas, Onandagas, and Tuscaroras. Now I have even more searching to do since all we know is that she was Iroquois. Now on my fathers side my greatgrandfather was Cherokee,but no one knows for sure how much. All I have to go on is his parents first names and now that leaves me trying to find the maiden name for his mother also. I have placed as much info on mine and my husbands family as I could, but I will continually update it with any aditional info I find. If you have some info on anyone in our familys it would be appreciated.
