Researching COWLEY, in Ontario, Canada

Updated July 12, 2001

About Our Family Research

My great-grandfather, Thomas Cowley, (b.1836 d.1910) came from Wiltshire, England to Ontario, Canada, sometime in the mid - to late 1800s.

His name was Thomas Cowley. He was married to Eliza Ann Graham, and his children were: Albert Edward, Charles Ernest, Winnifred, John T., Frederick William (my grandfather), Harriet Elizabeth, and Margaret.

He shows up in the 1871 Census for Windsor, Essex Co., Ontario as being 33 years old at the time. Also listed are his wife (32), John T. (11), Fred. Wm (9), Harriet (6), & Margaret A. (2).

I am trying to find out the how, when, and where of his emigration. Also why the other children weren't listed. Did he leave them in England? If so, why?
