Macdonald/Sinclair/Galloways of Caithness

Updated November 9, 2000

About Our Family Research

I have been using IGI and local parish records to try and trace the ancestors of my great grandparents, John Macdonald and Barbara Sinclair, both of whom died within 2 years of my grandfather's birth. Barbara's family seem to have lived on the Caithness/ Sutherland border for several generations and had probably been 'cleared' from the Strathnaver/StrathHalladale area. John was a minister of the Free Church of Scotland and his father, Donald' was a schoolmaster in Inverness. He was married to Marjory Murdoch, both having been born in Ardclach in Moray but it is difficult to trace thir families. I'm also trying to trace the ancestors of my grandmother Minnie Galloway, born in Thurso, Caithness, of a family who moved there from St Cuthberts Parish in Edinburgh. They were a reasonably well-to-do middle class family.
