My father and mother were born in Puerto Rico. My father's name was Justo Rivera Rivera, he was born on 7/19/1921. He told us that his mother (Natalia Rivera) was from santurce,PR. and that she had red hair and green eyes with fair skin. She died when my father was 40 days old, she died after birth of my father. Do all the stories he would tell us were stories told to him. I don't know my family history or ancestors from my dads part because his father(?) died when he was 12 years old and was raised by different families in the neiborhood.
My mother Gabriela Roldan Cruz was born on 3/3/1930, in Yabucoa,PR, her mother was Andrea Cruz Vazquez, her father was Ramon Roldan Fontanez. Mom and dad had 10 children, two born in PR and 8 born in chicago. What I have been told is that our ancestors were from Spain. When PR was taken by the Spaniards, the name of my ancestor was Riviera, but because of the rape of the indians and the shame of Spain they changed the last name to this children born from mixed races to Rivera.
