The people of Nedre Havn in Sel, Norway

Updated December 25, 2000

About Our Family Research

I wanted to find out a bit about the history of the farm, where I has lived since my birth; Nedre Havn in Sel Kommune, Gudbrandsdalen Norway. The first to live there was Halvor Moen and later his son Isach Halvorsen Havn, who came from the farm Moen in Selsverket, they then sold Nedre Havn to one of the sons of Rasmuss Johansen Øvre Havn; Engebret(Imbert) Rasmussen Havn. This was in the latter half of the 18th century. After him came his son Jon Imbertsen Havn, married to Rannei Imbertsdatter Skjenna. Then came his son Syver Johnsen Havn, married to Mari Hansdatter Mattistad, and then his oldest son John Syversen Havn, he drowned himself, because his girlfriend left him, and therefore his 10 year younger brother Ole Syversen Havn now owned the farm, he was married to Kari Hansdatter Mathistad(his cousins daughter), they were the parents of my great grandmother Bina Olsdatter Havn, who married Laurits Olsen Rønningen from Odlorønningen in Ringebu. They got 7 children:
Ola Rønningen(my grandfather), Oskar, Hans, Johan, Kari, Anne and Borghild. Ola was married to Jenny Bakkom from Øvre Bakkom in Lalm. They got 4 children; Leif Ola(my father), Olga Berit, Arne Jørgen and Jorunn Olaug. My father bought the farm from my grandmother Jenny, in 1981. And is still the owner of Nedre Havn. I am his only child.
