Mom's Side of my family.
-Wolf Vevel Shenkman is my Great Great Grandfather. I don't know where he came from but i do know a litte about his life. Wolf was a customer peddler in Ottawa, Ontario. All he owned was a horse and wagon with which he would conduct his business. A customer peddler would pick people up from their houses and take them places. They would also pick up groceries and deliver them. He soon moved to Montreal,QC where he met his wife Mary Osmiansky. He and mary got into the Real Estate business when they bought a small house and fixed it up so that he could sell it at a higher price. And that is exactly what he did.His wife came from Riga, Latvia.
-Samuel Shenkman is my Great Grandfather. He was born in the year of 1904 in the city of Ottawa, ON. Sam married Sonya Ross and they moved into an apartment in Ontario. Sam was a Real Estate Broker like his father. He worked for Wilder Birmingham Real Estate as a salesman. He learned something that he told to his son that his son told to his daughter (my mom) and that was when an offer is accepted, the real estate salesman should not say another word and get out of the door as soon as possible. Sam and Sonya divorced in 1935 when my Grandfather was about seven. Sam continued his life and became a business entrepaneur and an architect. He took his son Stanley on a road trip from Montreal to Los Angeles this is where Stanley met my Grandmother Donna.
-Sonya Ross was born in 1906 in Montreal, QC. She is my Great Grandmother. She has no birth certificate because it was lost when the Montreal City hall was burned down. She won the International Beauty Contest at the age of seventeen. She remarried in 1936 to Leonard Amdursky and together they had two children Bob and Joy. My aunt and uncle.
-Stanley Shenkman, my Grandfather was born December 22, 1928 in Montreal, QC. In 1936 he and his mother Sonya Ross who had just divorced from Stanley's father a year ago moved to Oswego, NY. He, his mother, and her new husband moved into a mansion that was built before the civil war. My Grandfather can still remember throwing newspapers from the time of the civil war out of the attic. In 1940 Stanley went to camp Hiawatha, just north of St. Agathe, QC. There he met a life long friend Marty Dover. My Grandfather remembers that there was no Rabbi in Oswego so he didn't have a Bar-Mitzvah until later in his life. Stanley married Donna Franklin on October 14, 1951. A year later their first child James was born he is my uncle. Six years later my mom was born Susan is her name. Staley was an architect and he built many great buildings including his own house. Stanley has had many business attempts some have failed but most have done very well. He also ran for parliment in 1962 but he was not elected. When Donna was pregnant with susan she had a groud breaking sugery preformed on her womb to save susan from a miscarriage. The sugery was called Purse String Surgery and it was compleatly successful. The house that stanley built for his family later had a bomb shelter added to it because of the Cuban Missle Crisis and the Cold War. It was equipped with an oxygen maker and a chemical toilet. Stanley has also owned a number of newspapers including some from overseas and Israel.
-Lester Franklin and Mildred Provus my Great Grandparents. I don't know much about their history but I do know that they lived in a number of places: Tokyo, Hong Kong, Montreal, Chicago, and Los Angeles. When living in Hong Kong Lester had a sudden heart attack right outside of his apartment. he died on the spot and he was looted for everything he had. By the time Mildred got there he had nothing left except for some of his clothes.
- George Robinson was born in Chicago on December 12, 1952. He lived in New Mexico for part of his life then he moved back to Chicago. Then he moved back and forth again. The second time in New Mexico he met my mom Susan Shenkman at a Thanksgiving party. They got married
