African American Family Research, time period around the 1800's. Researching family history of Chas "Charles" Robertson/Robinson of Pittsylvania County/Chatham, Virginia.
Chas was the son of Martha and Samuel Shepard, the brother of Nannie Robinson and a brother, (name Unknown). My family think that Samuel and Martha Shepard were their owners.
License applied or issued for Chas Robertson and Ellen Shelton was dated 31 December 1871. Ellen Shelton was born in 1852, Chas birth date unknown. They had (5) daughters by the name of Lydia Robertson born in 1875, Lydia Robertson married twice, because the information I have saids; Lydia Robertson Corbin Oliver; Nanny Robertson birth unknown, Lettie Robertson birth unknown, Minnie Robertson birth unknown, she also was married going by the last name of Clark; Corneila Robertson was born in 1881, she too married and became Corneila Robertson Towns.
Chas and Ellen had (4) sons by the name of Lewis Robertson, died at birth; Edward Robertson born 1-1-1873; Charles Robertson born 1893/94; John Shed Robertson birth unknown; William Robertson born 1893/94. They were all born in Chatham, Virginia or in Pittsylvania County.
My greatgrandmother Ellen Shelton had taken one of her sons back with her to the Indian Reservation traveling along with my great-greatgrandparents Lewis and Silva Shelton. The information I have on Chas and Ellens sons, is that John Robertson stayed in Chatham and married Nettie Moorman, but later ended up living in Pittsylvania, Va. Charles Robertson, I assume he stayed in Chatham, not much information on him. William Robertson in later years moved to Donora, Pennsylvania; Edward Robinson, (my grandfather) married Sara/Sarah Inge in Chatham, Virginia, but later moved to Farrell, Pennsylvania, where he died. As for the sisters I have no information on them at all. Any help would be appreciated, I can be reached by my email address or by the address posted to my personal page. God Bless.
