Russell Lee Mavis of Madison County, Michigan

Updated December 18, 2005

About Our Family Research

My father, Russell Lee Mavis of Madison Co, Michigan was the son of Clarence Mavis, son of John Elmore Mavis, son of Abraham Mavis of Defiance Co, Ohio. And my father was the son of Hulda Matilda Parker, daughter of Edward Parker of New York and Jennie Peterson of Michigan/Sweden. She was raised by her older cousin Huldah Ness Stark and her husband Henry Stark also of Madison Co. Michigan. The Ness' were from Norway and the Starks from Germany.

My mother, Audrey Denton of Nash Co, North Carolina is the daughter of William Webster Denton, son of William Thadeous (Buck) Denton and from the line of Lovett Brantley and Mary Elizabeth Brantley, thru Isabel Brantley and William Renion Morgan's daughter, Emma E (Doomie) Morgan. Her mother was Mary Magdalena (Lena) Massey thru the line of James (Jimmy) Massey and Pattie Ferrell. I am looking for more information on my gr-grandfather, William Thadeous (Buck) Denton and his brother, Robert (Bob) and their sister Heity (Et or Het) Denton. Buck and Bob were wards of the state of North Carolina in 1880 and living with Hop Winborne and working on his farm. They were 11 and 9 years old at the time. The story goes that they spent the winter of 1875/76 hid out and on their own until they were rounded up by neighbors and made wards of the state. It appears that a grandmother, Mary Denton, perhaps a schoolteacher, took care of and raised Heity (Et or Het).

My two sons, Justin and Aaron McLaughlin are descendants of Mdewankaton Sioux thru the line of Nancy Lucy Graham and Captain Joseph Buisson of Wabasha Co. Minnesota and thru the line of Captain James McLaughlin of Canada and Louise Marie Buisson.

I am interested in any information you may want to contribute and look forward to hearing from some distant cousins. Thank you and many happy and winding adventurous trails on your memorable journeys thru life.
