I am researching and writing a family history book on my Dutch Peterson ancestors and Irish Guthrie ancestors. I have been researching for over 20 years and am happy to share any information I have with other researchers.
I still have two major road blocks that I would like to break through before publication of this 5th family history book:
1. parents of Mary Sabena Mitchell who married my Solomon J. Peterson on October 27, 1859 in Mansfield, Richland, County. Ohio. Mary was born May 23, 1842 in Ohio (although one census record shows PA as state of birth). She died July 22, 1893, in Brule County, South Dakota.
It is most likely that Mary grew up in the Richland/Ashland County area of Ohio along with the Peterson famil, but I've not been able to find her with any of the Mitchell families in that area. Nor is there an 8 year old Mary Mitchell in any 1850 census that could possibly be "my" grandmother.
2. First wife of Thomas Peterson (1766/67 - 1855)of Sussex County, New Jersey. The first wife died at a young age leaving at least two children (Sarah and John G.) She may also be the mother of Margaret in this family.
I'm hoping there is still a stone unturned that I've not found on the identity of Mary's parents and Thomas' first wife. Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
