It's only the beginning, but I've been searching for the history of my family for years. It's a lot of work, and at times I've had to take a break from it.
Basically, my roots are French, English, Scottish, Belgique and Aboriginal. My "Rose" name is directly from France and my first ancestor Noel Rose married in Quebec in 1666.
Other family names I'm descended from is "Bates" which is directly from England, and family lore has it, my Great Grand Father was a direct desendant of a prominent Lord or Duke. He was born an illegitimate child and was sent to Canada when he was 11yrs old. He met my Great Grand Mother on the ship he came to Canada on.
My Scottish roots are connected to the "Grant" family. Again, the story is that two children, a boy and a girl had come to Canada from Scotland. There was a storm in the St. Lawrence and the ship hit rock and was sinking. All the children were put life boats where Quebecois families were waiting. The two children didn't want to go to the first family, and then decided to go with a family named "Tremblay". Apparently the little girl died of a broken heart, not being able to adjust to life in Quebec and missed her homeland. The boys descendants later moved to Calumet Island after the Quebec Rebellion where they eventually married into the Rose Family.
My Belgique roots come directly from the "Evraire" family, and my Aboriginal roots are Algonquin, from the "Lafleur" family in the Otter Lake Quebec region.
Hopefully you'll be able to have a look at the family tree I've started and hope to finish.
Thanks for dropping by.
