I have information about our branch of the Rubinsteins going back to a Reuben Rubinstein (1686 - 1736) who lived in Moscow. His Great grandson, Rabi Joseph Reuben Rubinstein (1780 - 1845), was smuggled out of Russia to escape Tsarist oppression and found himself in glasgow.
Several generations later, the Rubinsteins are a fairly close, extended family, many of us met in London on the 23rd september 2001 to celebrate the marriage of my second cousin Antonia Rubinstein, daughter of Anthony (who sadly died earlier this year), and Jill nee Dent. Antonia has married a Lord and they've gone to Northwest China for their honeymoon!
The next day, two branches of the family (4 children and 4 grandchildren of my father Michael Bernard Rubinstein (1920 - 2001), together with 4 children and 5 grandchildren of my uncle Hilary Harold Rubinstein (b 1926)) had a delightful afternoon at Hilary and Helges' cottage in Oxfordshire, where I hadn't been since childhood.
We'll all get together next year at Sarah Freakley's (nee Rubinstein) home in Norfolk to bury our Millenium box of memories, observations and perceptions, which we were each asked to write at the turn of the Millenium (about 50 contributions).
