Charles R. BRILL b. Oct. 1848 in Hannover, Prussia (Germany). He came to the US in1868 to avoid conscription. We think he fmay have come first to be with relatives in Streator, IL. In 1877 he was living in Vienna Township, IL (near Morris, IL)--one township over from where Christina lived. He was cutting wood for coal mine shafts near Coal City, IL. They were both probably attending the same German Lutheran church. He probably met Christina Hess near Morris, IL. In 1877 Christina was living and working in the home of Lyman B. Ray in Norman Township, IL.

Emma Christiana "Christina" HESS b. Aug. 1853 in Buffalo, NY. Her father George Ludwig Hess immigrated to the US in 1852 with his 2nd wife Marie Elizabethe MENZER HESS. They married in 1848 in Beerfelden a year after George's first wife died. They came with 7 children from George's 1st marriage and 2 of their own young children-George Adam Hess (b.1949) and Sophia Hess (b.1951) both born in Guttersbach, Hesse Darmstadt, Ger. When their parents died around 1859/1860, Christina, George Adam and Sophia went to live with their older half-brothers who had moved to Ottawa, IL in 1856. The older half-brother Johann Jacob HESS became their legal guardian in 1865. Three of her older half-brothers died in the American Civil War. One older sister moved to Ottawa and the other stayed in the Buffalo, NY area.

Charles and Christina married Jan. 2, 1877 in Mazon Twp, Grundy Co., IL. They had 9 children...Jessie May, LeRoy Charles, Edna Anna, Raymond Adam, Caroline Pearl, Joseph Hess, Lillian Rose, Mary Ellen, and George Ivan.

The family lived on a farm in Wauponsee Township, near Morris, IL for 23 years and moved to DeSmet, SD in 1901. Charles and Christina moved next to Aberdeen, SD in 1902. In 1908 they moved to Sunrise, M, near Rush City, with the three youngest children. They retired to Richmond, VA in 1913 and lived there the rest of their lives. Christina died Feb. 1916 and Charles died 1919. They are both buried in Riverside Cemetery, Aberdeen, SD.

Jesse May BRILL, -1946, m-1 1897 Rush McHUGH Morris, IL, child: Lillian Mabel McHugh 1901-. Rush died before Lillian was born. 1901-m-2 William Frederick Glau...3 children Herbert, Ed and Florence. William died in Buried in cem near Rush City, MN.

LeRoy Charles BRILL-19 m. Julia GNAT Bryant, SD. Lived in Melette & Watertown, SD...3 children-Blanche, Marion, Arden. WWII lived near Tacoma, WA. Watertown, SD 1959. Roy died in Watertown-196? Roy is buried in Clark, SD. Julia is buried in Bryant, SD. She died 19 . .

Edna Anna BRILL-m. 1900 Oliver E. PENO-lived in Kankakee, IL Had Oliver (passed away as an infant), Oliver Jr., Florence, Ed, Inez. Married 2nd 1917 Oscar F. BELSHE Creek Co, OK, Died in Arkansas-1929. Bur. Conway, AK.

Raymond Albert BRILL - m. Bertha LUKE in Bryant, SD. Lived in Aberdeen, SD. Had Ivan, Raymond Jr., Lorraine, Marjorie, Ardys. Ray and Bertha died on the same day-1965. Buried at Aberdeen, SD.

Caroline Pearl BRILL- m. Adolph Gustav STANKEY in DeSmet, SD; 1912 moved to Isabel/Firesteel, SD...Adopted Bernel. Had Donald & Emily. Caroline died of pneumonia in 1934. Adolph died in 19 . Caroline and Adolph are both buried in Hilltop Cem, Isabel, SD.

Joseph Hess BRILL (Aug. 1888-1968) 1910 Clayton, NM on mom's brother's (George Adam HESS) ranch...m. Hazel Birdelle OSBORN in 1911...Moved 1920 to Bellingham, WA...Had Harold, Charles, Mildred, Wendell, Joseph, Jr., Betty. Hazel died Oct. 1953. Joe married 2nd Florence LORD. Joe Sr. died July? 1968. Hazel and Joe are buried in Enterprise Cem, Ferndale, WA.

Lillian Rose BRILL ( -Dec. 25, 1936) 1910 Sunrise, MN census, 1916 Waubay, SD, ?m-1st?-192? m-2nd Ernest "Vere" TRENHOLM Phipps Township, near Watertown SD. Lily is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Aberdeen, SD. No children.
