The Ruhfel family originated in Alsace- Lorraine, France. I believe the City is Strassbourg.This information was given to me by my estranged father. The following information is of my personal knowledge: My Great Grandfather was Albert Ruhfel; he was born in Galena, Illinois in 1865.Among his siblings ( those known to me) were: Frederick, Mary and Martin. Albert married Theresa Ruhfel ( exact relationship unknown to me). Their children were Edward Albert 1892-1964 and Albert Aloysius 1894-1979. They lived in N.Y.C. on St. Nicholas Ave. or St. Theresa died when Edward was 4 years old and Albert was 2. Their father remarried and produced a daughter, Josephine.
Edward never married; he lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Montague St. then Remsen St. Edward worked all his life on Wall Street retiring from Thomson- Mc Kinnon.
Albert A. married Mary Veronica Huether on February 18, 1917. Their children were: Albert John born November 17, 1917 . A second son- Joseph Edward died of pneumonia at the age of 6 months. Their third and final child born to them was Robert Edward born April 5, 1923; he died in 1994.Albert A. and Mary V. moved with their sons to West Babylon, N.Y. in the 1930's.
Albert John married Jeanne Phyllis Bargy; their only child, a daughter was me, Gretchen Mary born November 30, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio. Following Albert's divorce from Jeanne he married Gloria. Their children were: Pamela born ca 1944, Barbara Ellen born ca 1946 and Albert Mark born ca 1948. They lived in Toledo, Ohio. I was given to my paternal grandparents who consequently legally adopted me when I was 6 months old. I have no knowledge of the lives of my 3 siblings. I would be interested in finding them and getting to know them. My father has estranged himself from all of us although I know he lives in Toledo, Ohio.
I, Gretchen Mary Ruhfel, married Wesley Lee Matteson on September 19,1962 in Monroe, Michigan. Our children, all sons are: Kevin Albert born February 22,1963; Brian Wesley born January 19,1964 died in a car crash as a passenger August 16,l997;William Edward born January 9,1965; Michael David born July 30,1967; Eric James born November 1,1969; Mark Andrew born November 5,1975.All of my children were born in Dunkirk, N.Y.
Kevin married Lisa Hawker on August 23, 1986. Their children are: Amanda Jo born October 19, 1988; David Lee born April 28, 1990. Brian was never married and had no children. William married Michele Pawloski on January 26, 1985. Their children are: Sean Edward born March 11, 1988 and Justin Christopher born August 8, 1990. Michael is not married and has no children. Eric married Neyaritha in Panama City, Panama, Central America in December, 1989. Their daughter, Krystal Denise was born January 29, 1990. Several years after Eric's divorce from Neyaritha he married Tippy Wiley Mountain on August 9, 1997 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Their son Jack Brian was born September 2 1999.
Mark Andrew married Dawnielle Marie Rackl on July 9, 1999; they have no children. Kevin and family live in Castle Rock, Colorado. William and his family live in Dunkirk, New York. Michael lives in Tampa, Florida. Eric and his family live in Newport News, Virginia. Mark and his wife live in Akron, New York
