Descendants of Capt. John Ruiter

Updated March 4, 2010

About Our Family Research

I am researching the descendants of Capt. John Ruiter (son of Loyalist Col. Henry Ruiter) and his wife, Sarah Fyler, who settled in Stanstead Co., Quebec, Canada around 1797.

John Ruiter was born June 16, 1768, in Hoosick, Albany (now Rensselaer) Co., New York, and died August 8, 1853, in Ruiter's Corner, Stanstead Co., Quebec. In 1787, he married Sarah Fyler, daughter of Samuel Fyler and Jerusha Hopping, in Caldwell's Manor, Missisquoi Co., Quebec. Sarah was born November 5, 1769, in Shelburne, Chittenden Co., Vermont, and died April 10, 1842, in Ruiter's Corner, Stanstead Co., Quebec.

I am also interested in the ancestry of Henry Ruiter (originally Hendrick Ruyter).
