The Canadian branch of the family stems for Matriarch Olive Rule who arrive in Canada with six of her eight children (four boys; Martin, Leslie, Cecil and Stanley: and two girls; Hilda and Audrey) somewhere around the turn of the last century. Martin Rule, the patriarch, was a Veterinarian in Lancastershire, England. He died of exposure in a drunken stupor at about 40 years of age, leaving Olive with eight children to raise. The two eldest boys (no info available) remained in England.
The first reunion of the Toronto (Martin Gorthorne) and Ottawa (Leslie) branches of the Rule family took place in Ottawa, Ontario on Saturday, February 24th, 2001. A rough version of a family tree was created, with a lot of holes remaining to be filled. Allen (wife Alison), fourth generation through Leslie and Leslie, and Edward (Ted, wife Shirley), fourth generation through Martin and Harry, are attempting to expand on the information currently available
