This is a late study. The primary searcher is 66 years old (myself)and many of the ancestors are gone before we began the search. My search begins with my immediate family as all must.
My name is Charles S. Russell, I was born on February 26, 1936 in Vandalia. My father, Joseph William Russell was born September 22, 1912 in Altamont, IL. He died October 18, 1982 in Vandalia, IL. His father, Charles Ward Russell was born in 1882 and died in 1958, also in Vandalia, IL. He is believed to have been born in Altamont, IL. His father, Joseph Samuel Russell was born in 1852 in Roxbury Morgan County, OH. His wife, Mary R. Harmon was born at Little Tree, Lancaster, PA - she is thought to be of Quaker descent. This is where the line stops on my father's side.
Information on my mother's side is mostly guesswork past my mother, Marie I. Burrus. Nevertheless, the line goes back to my great-great grandmother, Bell Higgins who supposedly walked a team of oxen to Vandalia from Arkansas as legend has it. She had three husbands, Austin (my grandmother's father), Keeling, my aunt's father and possibly Higgins or an unknown deceased husband.
