  • My father Albert B Rushing (58 KB)
My father Albert B. Rushing was born in Union Co. N.C. in 1917. He was the son of William I and Gillie Mills. He served in the civilian conservation corp in the western part of North Carolina. Around 1937 he enlisted in the US Army, obtained the rank of sergeant. He was about to be shipped out with his outfit from Jacksonville Fla. After another physical, the doctors found out he had an enlarged heart. He was discharged for this condition. He was supposed to go to North Africa with his outfit. None of his outfit lived. They were all killed by the Germans. The last job my father had was a police office in Charlotte N.C. during the middle and latter part of the 1940s. In 1948 he had stoke and had to quite the police force. He never was able work very much for the rest of his life. He died in 1967 at the age of 49 with an enlarged heart. He is burried near his father and mother.
