Decendants of Nancy McKinney of Coosa County, Alabama

Updated March 2, 2005

About Our Family Research

I'm looking for information to complete the research that my Aunt Davene began in searching the McKinney family tree. She has done so much research, but there are so many branches left bare that need filling in. So far there are 8 generations starting with the slave named Nancy who was owned by Moses McKinney on a Plantation farm in Warren County, GA. Nancy and her children were left to his Brother Harris McKinney in his will. He then moved them all to Coosa County, AL where I'm sure some McKinneys are still there. Nancy begat 4 children and Eliza was one of them who begat 8 children, and Lewis was the oldest who begat 9 children, with my Grandfather being the youngest of the 9, Robert Vassar McKinney. I have met several of the decendants of my Grandfather's 8 brothers and sisters at numerous Family reunions at parks in Detroit, MI. They are William Hayes McKinney (a blind Lawyer), Eliza Wills, James G. McKinney, Mary Lou Mitchell,Lewis McKinney, Ocie McKinney, Aurielia Leonard (who was also blind),and Kelly McKinney. If any of these names sound familiar to you and you have info to fill in the branches, please contact Min. Karen (Kay) Rush - (313)927-0143. God Bless!
