I am an adoptee who recently discovered my natural mother, Patricia Mae Coburn (maiden name), who lives on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. She is something of a local historian who has unearthed a great deal of information on her family (she has instigated two reunions already!) but the history on her grandfather, James Andrew Coburn, remains shrouded in mystery. What she has told me is the following: James Andrew Coburn was born in 1862 in St. Andrew (or is it St. Andrews?), New Brunswick, and raised at Harvey Station. From what I understand he was first generation Canadian, and his family originates in Scotland. His family, or some members thereof, moved from New Brunswick to British Columbia, possibly to Nanaimo, Vancouver, and/or Port Alberni. James Coburn married Maria Ann Ford, daughter of George and Mary James Ford. I don't recall how many children they had; one of them is George Coburn. He married and settled on Hornby Island; there were five children from that union, one of them is my mother. Any help on this would be amazing. I feel I must help my mother in any way possible to shed some light on this branch of the family. Thank you.
