I am currently researching the ancestory of my father Robert Wayne Russell Sr, son of Wayne and Ethel "Bernice" Schell; the following surnames joined the family as I went back in time Shultz; White; Payne; Moore; Leedom; and Hatcher.
The Russell family starts north and west of Washington, DC. Today it is known as the County of Loudoun, Commonwealth of Virginia. The family is one of the earliest families to reside in the Ohio territory in what is known today as Belmont County, Ohio. It is believed that the Russell's initially came from Delaware, Sussex County and then earlier Bristol, England
Abel Janney and John Russell
"Three young men from Loudoun County, Virginia--Quaker Abel Janney, John Russell and Colman Wilks--dared to cross the Ohio River in the spring of 1782 to look the country over. Indians picked up their presence when they were only a half-mile west of the river, near Marietta. The Indians shot Russell and Wilks dead. They took Abel Janney prisoner and he did not get home for fifteen months" from "The Friendly Virginians" by Jay Worrall.

Russell's are all over the phonebook in Belmont County especially in Flushing, Ohio. The family which in the early days were farmers moved on to Iowa, then Kansas and then Michigan during the depression and finally today in Florida.
Some of these places are:
Bucks Co, Pennsylvania Sussex Co, Delaware Loudoun County, Virginia Flushing, Belmont County , Ohio Rush,Champaigne,Co,Ohio Gosport, Iowa Goodland, Kansas Colby, Kansas McAllen, Texas Wyandotte, Michigan Plymouth, Michigan Florida in several locations.
My biggest mystery is Samuel Russell and Sarah Hatcher from Loudoun County, Virginia. Little is known about him not her, prior to his arrival in Loudoun County. He is believed to be the son of a Joseph or a Phillip both brothers from Sussex Co, Delaware. They each had a Samuel born in 1725 and 1737, those two Samuels have the same grandfather fom Bristol, England.
My maternal grandfather was a Bussinger, Calvin Frederic Bussinger born in Yougstown, Ohio and he mariied Marie Elizabeth Rushlow in Wyandotte, Michigan. His parents were from Ohio his dad, Frederick Calvin born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1892 and his mom Nellie Geis born 1872 from Uhlrichsville, Ohio. His dad also Frederick Calvin was born nearby over the pennsylvania border in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He is the so of a Fred Bussinger abt 1813 and a Jane "Unknown" born abt. 1825 in Pennsylvania.
Other Surnames with alot of family information Rushlow, Solo, and St. Charles.
